The Course

IP professionals in every role need to be able to delegate work to others within their organisation. IP attorneys especially need to be able to delegate work to others from their first day in the profession. However, there is a common reluctance to delegate work, sometimes fuelled by inexperience and other times from a lack of understanding of the benefits of delegation. This 1-hour workshop will cover the benefits of delegation for everyone associated with a particular task (including the person delegating, the person being delegated to, clients and the firm) We'll debunk some of the stories we tell ourselves as to why delegation isn't appropriate for us to do or for that piece of work. You'll learn techniques for identifying work suitable for delegation and who to delegate it to. You'll also learn how to actually delegate the task so you get a reasonable outcome, and not just a boomeranging problem. You'll have the opportunity to practice some of the planning and work delegation techniques within the safe space of the workshop before you have to do it out in the real world. You'll come away from the hour with improved confidence in your ability to delegate work at the right times, to the right people and a better understanding of the importance of delegation in an IP firm. This training links well with our "Effective Feedback for IP professionals" 1-hour training.
